From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.
